New Bodø Airport

Bodø, Nordland, Norway

The New Bodø Airport project is a USD 720 million (NOK 7.5B) infrastructure development designed to strengthen Northern Norway’s connectivity and support long-term economic growth in the region. The project includes construction of a 2,900-meter runway, new terminal building, and supporting airport infrastructure on a newly developed peninsula in Bodø. When completed in 2029, the airport will serve as a key regional hub capable of accommodating 2.3 million passengers annually.

More About This Project:

The New Bodø Airport project represents one of Norway’s most significant aviation infrastructure developments, designed to support regional connectivity and future growth in Northern Norway. Construction began in 2024 and includes development of a 2,900-meter runway, taxiways, aircraft movement areas, and a new passenger terminal. The project is being delivered through two major contracts: a heavy civil engineering scope covering the airfield infrastructure and a building contract for the terminal and associated facilities.

Transforming the site required a major earthworks operation, including the relocation of more than 3.5 million cubic meters of rock, soil, and clay to construct the new airport platform. Much of this material is being used to extend the peninsula approximately 700 meters into the sea, allowing the airport footprint to be created while maintaining a strict mass balance approach — meaning no material is imported to or exported from the site. This strategy reduces environmental impact while also improving cost efficiency across the project.

The project is being delivered using a collaborative contracting model, where Avinor and its contractors work closely together to develop project solutions, optimise execution strategies, and manage long-term risks. By aligning project planning, production tracking, and completion strategies early in the development phase, the team has created a delivery model that supports flexibility, minimises scope creep, and allows the project to adapt to changes while maintaining focus on efficient and successful delivery.

Supported by InEight:
